A tour that includes a boat trip to see penguins on Martillo Island,
a visit to the fishing village of Almanza, and a seafood tasting along the King Crab Route.
This fascinating adventure offers an exclusive navigation to the penguin colony, a visit to the southernmost fishing village in the world, and an unforgettable gastronomic experience along the “King Crab Route.” Only 70 km east of Ushuaia, Almanza is a picturesque village known for its artisanal king crab production and diverse seafood cuisine, all sourced from a pristine conservation area.
We depart in the afternoon from Ushuaia, traveling along Route 3 through the Patagonian Andean forest, surrounded by the majestic Andes and vast peat bogs. We continue past winter resorts until we reach the intersection with Route “J,” from where we head south along the Lasifashaj River, observing beaver dams built by these animals introduced from Canada.
At Puerto Almanza, we board a small boat to navigate the Beagle Channel, allowing us to approach the islands and enjoy a respectful experience with nature without disturbing the penguin habitat. On our way to Martillo Island, we will witness spectacular landscapes and various species of seabirds. Upon reaching the island, we’ll get close to observe Magellanic and Gentoo penguins.
Back on land, we will explore the small fishing village, home to around 15 families dedicated to artisanal king crab fishing, seafood harvesting, and trout farming. This place reflects life at the end of the world and its rich gastronomic culture.
In the village, we’ll enjoy a delicious seafood tapas meal with local dishes in a unique natural setting. Afterward, we’ll take a walk to the Duende Waterfall, hidden in the forest and shaped by the meltwater that flows down from the peaks. Finally, we’ll return to Ushuaia.
