FLIGHTS

Flying in a small plane over Ushuaia and the Land of Fire will be a lifelong memory. The images taken from the sky allow us to appreciate the vastness of the Fuegian landscapes. Fly over the City of Ushuaia, fly between the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains, the Beagle Channel, and other amazing landscapes aboard our Piper aircraft. Get to know the cockpit of these aircraft and listen to the pilot’s communications with the control tower.

15 minutes flight

After take-off, it rises to an average altitude of 1,500 feet, which is equivalent to approximately 450 meters. As we ascend we cross the Bay of Ushuaia towards Playa Larga. Once there, we begin an unmissable flight over the entire city of Ushuaia, starting from the eastern part (industrial park), passing through the city center of Ushuaia, the port, the hotel sector, the impressive Glacier Le Martial, the residential sector located west of the city and finally Mount Susana.

After the overflight of the city, we will pass over the Golondrina Bay, and with a privileged view of the Ushuaia International Airport we will begin the descent to head towards the landing. In our approach to the old airport (where the Ushuaia Aeroclub is located) we will once again fly over the Bay and the city center.

30 minutes flight

After take-off it ascends to an average altitude of 1,500 feet, which is equivalent to approximately 450 mts, while we fly over the Bay of Ushuaia and the city. In this first stage, you will see the most outstanding buildings of the city, the Andes Mountains and the famous Glacier Le Martial.

We leave the city behind and head west towards the Tierra del Fuego National Park. In our tour towards the Park, you can see the Bay Swallow, the Pipo River Valley, the Cañadón de La Oveja and Mount Susana. Once in the sector of the National Park, the main points of interest of this reserve are sighted: Bahia Ensenada, Bahía Lapataia, Isla Redonda, Isla Estorbo, Lago Roca, Laguna Negra, Laguna Verde, among others. We will continue flying west to the international border with Chile at Milestone XXVI, where we can see the Yendegaia Bay with its imposing glacier, located in Chilean territory.

A 180º turn is made to fly over the Beagle Channel heading east. You can see the imposing Chilean Hoste Island, the Murray Channel, Navarino Island, Navarino Port. The islets that make up the Bridges Islands are overflown, contemplating the Falkland Islands International Airport, the Island of the wolves, Island of the birds, and most importantly: the enigmatic and solitary Faro Les Eclaireurs.

Already in the final stage of our flight, the lighthouse sector is left behind to fly over the Estancia Tunnel while returning to the Bay of Ushuaia, where it flies over the city in descent to then land at the Old Airport. It is at this very moment when you have the best views of the city center of Ushuaia from above.

1 hour flight

Without a doubt, the best of our flights: after take-off it ascends to an average altitude of 3,500 feet, equivalent to approximately 1,150 meters, while we fly over the Bay of Ushuaia heading towards the imposing and iconic Mount Olivia and Monte Cinco Hermanos. During the ascent, you will have imcomparable views of the City of Ushuaia.

Passing by the impressive Mount Olivia, we enter the Valley of Tierra Mayor where you can see, among other things, the majestic Esmeralda Lagoon, the Ojo del Albino Glacier, Mount Alvear and its two glaciers, and Cerro Krund, where the Cerro Castor Winter Center is located. From the plane you can see perfectly the slopes and the chairlifts of the Hill. If it is winter you can even see the skiers!

We cross the Andes Mountain Range to the north through the Garibaldi Pass, where we will see the Escondido Lake, the Petrel Inn and Laguna Bombilla; to find then the vastness of Lake Fagnano (Kami).

Already in the area of Lake Fagnano, we will fly towards the east being able to observe to the left the lakes Yehuin and Chepelmut and to the right the lagoons Santa Laura and San Ricardo. A few kilometers ahead is located Tolhuin, a small commune located in the heart of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego.

We leave the Fagnano Lake sector behind to fly south to the iconic Harberton Ranch as we descend to appreciate it up close. Immediately after you fly over Martillo Island, known to be the home of migratory penguins during the summer season, then you can see the Gable Fronton, located on the homonymous island.

From this moment we will fly west towards the City of Ushuaia, always on the Beagle Channel. But there is still much to know: The Canal divides Argentina from Chile, so at this moment we will fly right over the international limit. The Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego, on the right belongs to Argentina; while the Isla Navarino, on the left, belongs to Chile.

On our way to the city we can see Puerto Williams and the Dientes de la Navarino (Chile), Puerto Almanza and its fishing ventures, the tourist ship Monte Sarmiento, which ran aground in Puerto Remolinos in 1935, the Encajonado River, the stays Punta Segunda and Tunnel, as well as the solitary and world-famous Les Eclareurs lighthouse, the islands of the Wolves and the birds.

Already in the final stage of our flight, we leave behind the sector of the lighthouse to return to the Bay of Ushuaia, where we fly over the city in descent to land at the Old Airport. It is at this precise moment when you have the best views of the center of the City of Ushuaia.
